Have an idea for a workshop?
We’re always looking for exciting ideas from the AIchemy community, whether it’s building new tools, sparking discussion around a research challenge, or bringing people together to brainstorm.
The Alchemy Hub runs a series of one-day workshops (annually) on topics related to AI for chemistry, most of which come from ideas proposed by members of the our community. Our workshops are engaging and interactive with around 20-40 participants (depending on the format) and aimed at a variety of audiences from established researchers to those just stepping into the world of AI.
There is no set format for an AIchemy workshop, but to help you get started and think about how you may structure yours, here are some examples from our first few workshops, but we are also open to alternative formats:
- Mini Symposium: Our GenAI in Chemistry Education workshop included a morning session where the hosts at Imperial showcased how they were using GenAI in teaching practice, with the afternoon open to participants to present their own experiences, through invited presentations and group discussion.
- Mini Hackathon: The Inorganic Informatics workshop focussed on the development of the materials discovery code SMACT, with the morning session giving an overview of the code and details of ongoing development work, and the afternoon session devoted to hands-on coding to update the SMACT code.
- Structured Discussion: Our RAG and AI Agents workshop offers a series of structured discussion sessions aimed at forming a consensus on key objectives related to delivering the promised impact of these novel tools in chemistry discovery and development.
- Hands-on Experience/Training – The OChRA workshop is an interactive workshop providing an overview of current open-source lab automation frameworks, followed by live demos showcasing how to create and run workflows, connect lab instruments and program experiments using AI tools and the OChRA visual interface.
